The MJAJI-MBATHA FOUNDATION founded by Ms Thembelihle Mbatha incepted from annually hosting her birthday charity drives donating dignity packs to primary and secondary school pupils, who are from unprivileged home environments seeking assistance with human basic needs for it to be possible to attend school. The dignity packs charity drives were aimed at schools in Thembelihle’ s hometown Kanyamazane which has now has expanded in other surrounding areas in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga.

What is the Mjaji – Mbatha Foundation (MMF)?

The foundation is a registered NPO established to help

overcome barriers to a good education outcomes within Kanyamazane and greater Mbombela rural/ township surrounding areas. As concerned citizens of the country – one with a vested interest in improving the quality of education,

especially in mathematics, good career choices and hope for a better society.

MMF has since turned this strategic priority into action, and for the past year from annually hosting birthday charity drives donating dignity packs to primary and secondary school pupils, who are from unprivileged home environments seeking assistance with human basic needs for it to be possible to attend school, MMF was established with an aim to provide these dignity packs monthly so that there is meaningful measurable impact within the schools. The initiative will also provide mentorship to these learners in an aim to motivate and improve their grades.

Our Vision

The vision and aim of giving back to the community has grown for Thembelihle since she began career and mentorship talks for matriculates & university students in different career prospects such as Chartered Accountancy, Entrepreneurship, Medical studies, Law studies, media studies and the public sector as a career choice towards nation building.

Who are theschools selected to be beneficiaries in 2020?

Working closely with the schools in Kanyamazane, we selected three schools which are under the school system categorized as quantile one, these are schools surrounded by the poorest communities who are dependent on state resources.  MMF has selected Thandulwazi Primary School,   Tiphembeleni Primary School and Somqhuba Primary School, which previously we managed to donate +-360 Dignity packs over the 3 schools ranging from 120 – 140 very needy and underprivileged learners in each school.

In order to make a meaningful impact, it is important to limit the number in order to be able to measure the impact and see a tangible difference in the in the lives of each learner that will be benefiting though our drives and mentorship programmes, this enables also us to keep record of progress.

Why does MMF run these charity drives?

Why does MMF run these charity drives?

When it comes to comes to decent sanitary needs, girls in particular loose on average 4-6 days of school attendance as a result of not having sanitary towels for that of the month. Young boys and girls loose self-confidence and not able to participate in sports and other interschool activities due to lack of grooming necessities such as deodorants, tooth paste and face cloths.

The access to mentorship the MMF will offer though its database of partners will promote learners to choose career paths and study subject choices that promote scarce-skill professions like medicine, engineering, actuarial science and chartered accountancy, the pool of learners who are academically talented is there however are impeded by these small necessities which we aim to provide towards a better education. It is therefore essential that MMF does what it can to assist and to grow the pipeline of the learners, and in particular disadvantaged learners who wish to study towards any of the above mentioned careers.

Why partner with MMF on these monthly charity and mentorship drives?

According to studies conducted both on a personal and

national level, education has shown to increase economic growth and stability

and it helps societies run smoothly. As MMF we believe this will be a long

lasting impact in the communities of Kanyamazane, Pinaar and greater Mbombela and South Africa. In improving the lives of these learners and in doing so through career guidance and mentorship, they are able to access the next generation of South Africa’s high wealth individuals for creation of a sustainable educated and self-sustaining community that can pay it forward.
